Brandywine

With their sparkling harmonies and warm acoustic sound, Brandywine has delighted audiences, young and old, for many years. Sanford Markley's melodic and soulful guitarwork is the perfect backdrop for the clear and vibrant vocals of this engaging trio. The sweet sibling voices of Sanford and his sister, Lena, combine with the rich, distinctive singing of Roger Sullivan to create a uniquely magical blend.

Brandywine's repertoire includes traditional folk songs, as well as their own versions of contemporary pop material. They also draw from a wealth of original songs composed by Sanford. His strong, intelligent songwriting is enhanced by the group's sensitive performances. Audiences are charmed by the band's playful rapport and their gentle humor has endeared them to fans of all age.

Brandywine has been playing in the Washington area for over a decade at festivals, special events and at local music clubs. In the past they have performed on the Birchmere stage as featured artists for a World Folk Music Association benefit and sung with Jonathan Edwards at the Washington Area Music Association Awards. They have also appeared on Montgomery County's "Music Shop" television show, at the Frederick Folk Club, at the Virginia Wine Festival, and on the Wammie Award winning CD "Celebration of a Dreamer". The group's founder, Sanford Markley, also works as a solo artist and plays on a regular basis in area music clubs and restaurants.
